"The Salamander Key" Original Motion Picture Score and "Merlin's Apprentice" Original Television Soundtrack

13.10.2011

""The Salamander Key" Original Score composed by Yuri Poteyenko  and  "Merlin's Apprentice" Original Television Soundtrack composed by Lawrence Shragge has been released.

The Elixir of Life is the latest marvel of pharmaceutics, discovered during the research of salamanders, who can renew their cell structure. But it seems the miracle potion comes with a price... A mysterious virus that leads to suicidal tendencies is taking its victims in Moscow. An international research team travels to an island near South East Asia to analyze the virus in its original home before they encounter a group of mercenaries. When an elite SWAT team is dispatched after the missing scientists, the hardened military men and their civilian leverage face several dangers while they're discovering more connections between the Elixir of Life and the deadly virus...

Starring Michael Madsen, Rutger Hauer and MMA champion Fedor Emelyanenko, The Salamander Key is a 2011 Russian thriller directed by Aleksandr Yakimchuk . The score is provided by Yuri Potyenko whose music lives up to the quality of contemporary American action scores. A combination of percussive action, electronic suspense and heartfelt inspirational cues, KeepMoving Record's seventh release with the composer contains virtually the entire score. The music was recorded at Mosfilm Studios by conductor Igor Dronov and engineer Gennady Papin, with the Russian recording receiving a true Hollywood makeover in Los Angeles by mixer Tommi Vicari.

Produced eight years after their hit mini-series "Merlin", Hallmark Entertainment's 2006 production "Merlin's Apprentice" picks up fifty years after the events of the original series. After learning that the Holy Grail had departed from Camelot, the legendary wizard takes on a student with rudimentary magical powers in order to stop the forces of evil. Directed by David Wu, the series features original music by Canadian composer Lawrence Shragge. The director/composer duo's other credits include Snow Queen, Webs, Son of the Dragon and Iron Road. Shragge's music combines live musicians (strings, all solo instruments) with a simulated orchestra in order to bring the audience innocence, wonder and magic from this post-Arthurian adventure. Featuring brand new themes for major characters and a haunting composition for the Grail itself, KeepMoving Records' new CD collects together the best cues from the two part mini-series with a special focus on highlighting the live musicians who participated in the score. Liner notes by Gergely Hubai discuss the series, the score and the collaborations of David Wu and Lawrence Shragge based a new interview with the composer.
